FIRMWARE UPDATES
Datakey Electronics offers high-capacity SPI-Flash Memory Keys and Tokens that are ideal for updating firmware in any non-networked electronic device. In-field firmware updates are Datakey Electronics’ fastest growing application because our products simplify this historically challenging and expensive process.
Traditionally, OEMs have been forced to do product recalls or send technicians to the field in order to update firmware in deployed equipment. This is time-consuming and very expensive. Datakey Electronics has worked with OEMs to save thousands, even tens-of-thousands of dollars by implementing our portable memory products to accomplish this task.
If a firmware update is required, simply store the new firmware on a Key at your factory and send the Key into the field. Once received, the Key is inserted into the Receptacle and the firmware is flashed.
By adding a low-cost Receptacle to the control board, OEMs can add in-field firmware update capability without much effect on the BOM cost. Memory Keys only need to be purchased if a firmware update is required, reducing the initial investment. Datakey Electronics’ unique devices can also create a revenue stream for OEMs who sell updates as after-market add-ons.
